Maine Crafts Association

The Story

Maine Crafts Association’s website is a redesign project that remains one of our largest endeavors. The older site was riddled with hiccups that required a tedious amount of maintenance. MCA needed a digital home that celebrated craft in Maine, showcased over 500 members, provided news, resources, and access to education, and engaged donors. It also needed to be as cool as the work they represent.

Many hands were involved in the process and we managed a project that allowed the executive director to run this successful state-wide nonprofit. The site was built on WordPress integrates with their CiviCRM database for the membership directory and donations processing.

This massive site needed to be easy to navigate. After all, site visitors include the general public, potential and active members, donors, and outside organizations seeking information and connection. Site features include a simple color palette based on MCA’s brand, custom sidebars so that each section of the website felt cohesive. A megafooter offering a deep dive of the content without distracting the visitor allowed us to build a lightweight main navigation menu. We allow pulled in a talented developer to help work some CSS magic to ensure that WordPress and CiviCRM played well together.

Reorganizing content allowed MCA to shed unnecessary information and make room for their current needs. We can even show you the spreadsheets we used to keep track of things.

We launched a site with one foot in the present and one that looks into the future. Our careful planning during the build means that MCAs continues to follow some well established guidelines, ensuring visual and navigational continuity.
